Lincoln Center Neighborhood

The Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, which is a 16.3-acre cultural complex that now includes the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, Julliard School and the New York City Ballet is part of the The Lincoln Center neighborhood. The New York City Board of Aldermen bestowed the Lincoln Square name to the area that was originally known as San Juan Hill, a predominantly Black and Afro-Caribbean community in the 1920s. The Lincoln Square Renewal Project spearheaded by John D.
